We are less than a week away from the “Super Bowl” of the SEC Network. Many of the executives at the SEC Network have been waiting for this day for quite some time. Some are nervous and others are excited. On Thursday, August 28th, 2014 at 6:01 pm Brent Musburger will say, “You are looking live at Williams Brice Stadium.” 2001 A Space Odyssey will be playing and 80,250 screaming SEC fans will be going crazy in Columbia, South Carolina. At this very moment, the SEC Network will know just how big this southern fried football conference is.
The ratings for the opening Thursday night game in 2013 (UNC @ South Carolina) were 2.4 with 3.65 million viewers. This game was on ESPN and nationally televised. At this time we are still sorting through who has the SEC Network and who does not. This is going to make it difficult to predict the ratings but let us have some fun with it anyway.
The Georgia at Clemson Saturday Night Football game (also with Brent) gathered 8.14 million viewers with a 4.8 rating during the first weekend of the season last year. This game was on ABC and pretty much anyone with an antenna gets ABC. With this in mind, I will predict that the Texas A&M vs South Carolina game will get a 3.2 rating with around 4.5 million viewers. This is a very bold prediction as the SEC Network is not nearly as widespread as ESPN or ABC. That said, SEC fans throughout the country have been salivating to see the first game on this network. What is your guess on the ratings for this game? Feel free to make your predictions in the comments below.
