College Football Playoff Mock Selection Committee Week 5

Well, Florida State survived and three of the top 5 had a bye this week. Texas A&M had to pull out a miracle in the 4th quarter and the SEC East is just crazy. Heck, Tennessee almost beat Georgia. It is getting wild with conference play heating up. Alright, who are your Top 5 teams? Please comment below.

    1) Oklahoma Sooners (4-0): OU is executing at a high level all-around and looks to return to Big 12 title glory.
    2) UCLA (4-0): I didn’t have UCLA last week, but after their very impressive performance on the road at ASU, I think they are a dominant team and will win the Pac-12 South with no losses with a much better schedule than last year.
    3) Oregon (4-0): Just behind UCLA…I still believe Marcus Mariota is the best college quarterback right now, but the Ducks’ O-line is awfully shaky and their defense isn’t necessarily dominant. Mariota will make it work to only lose to UCLA in the season, thus winning the Pac-12 North. I also predict them to beat UCLA in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
    4) Auburn (4-0): The Tigers (the ones from Alabama) are currently the most impressive team in the SEC in my eyes. None of them are impressive enough to pass the top 3 teams (or at least yet). Nick Marshall is a good quarterback under a good coach with a lot of talented players.
    5) Baylor (4-0): The Bears remain in my top 5. I only dropped them due to other teams playing better, but Bryce Petty is right behind Marcus Mariota. OU’s unstable Trevor Knight could cause them problems when versing the Bears, despite being at home. Don’t count the Bears out quite yet…Art Briles knows what he’s doing!

    1. Oklahoma 35
    2. Auburn 20
    3. Alabama 18
    4. Oregon 15
    5. Florida State 12

    I’m not sold on any…….
UCLA woke up, as did Ohio State, to little too late?
    A&M?

    SEC east is a mess.

    1) Florida State
    2) Oregon
    3) Alabama
    4) Oklahoma
    5) Auburn

I’m not sold on Florida State, but they are still the reigning champs and have the longest winning streak in the country. Alabama and Oklahoma seem to be the most dominant teams on this list. Texas A&M nearly got embarrassed in Dallas by an unranked Arkansas team but they’re still just on the outside looking in. Joining them just on the outside for me is UCLA. With their utterly thorough dismantling of #15 Arizona State in Tempe, its hard to overlook them.

    Espérate, Kevin!

    I’ve seen enough…I think. :)

Enough to know that there needs to be a change in my Top 5, which had not changed at all these past weeks from my preseason Top 5. I’m not big on preseason polls – need to see teams play to get a better feel for where they are as a football team.

    1. Oklahoma
    2. Alabama
    3. Auburn
    4. Florida State
    5. Oregon

5A: Georgia. Went back & forth between FSU, Oregon & Georgia. Even gave Ole Miss & Michigan State (despite their 1 loss) another look. But, this is who I’m going with. SUBJECT TO CHANGE from here on out. 😉

Early Heisman thoughts: Gurley, Ameer, Mariota.

    1. OKLAHOMA
    2. ALABAMA
    3. AUBURN
    4. TEXAS A&M
    5. BAYLOR.

As you see Florida State is not among my top 5, they maybe defending National Champions, but they are not top 5 material. Oklahoma and Alabama are the best teams right now. Both will be tested this week; Oklahoma plays TCU in Ft. Worth, and Alabama faces an Ole Miss team who is improving each week.
